Saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival. Surprised at the average ratings this film has received. An edge of the seat film, that tackles illegal immigration across the U.S Mexican border.

A simple, yet powerful story that made me re think illegal immigration, long after I had finished watching the movie.

The actors and dogs did a great job playing their part and the setting of the movie was ideal. Watching this movie in surround sound, made the suspense more intense. This movie could not have been released at a better time, due to its subtle message on illegal Mexican immigration. I would thoroughly recommend watching this movie and look forward to its release on DVD.

Superb sets, great action if not a bit too long.
13 September 2015 | by  (United Kingdom)
This film has everything from sandstorms and lightning to Zombies and evil henchman. Its as though the writer / director said lets throw everything into the story that we can and see what sticks, and then when it came time to edit some of it out, everything cost so much to make that they didn't want to remove it.

This means the film has a running time in excess of two hours and its a lot to digest. There is so much action that we as a viewer get exhausted watching it. The gang of kids we never really get to meet. Only Tom has a purpose, the others I couldn't even tell you their names. I guess they could have been left out the script as none of them were useful. One of them started complaining at the start, suggesting a possible conflict but them he just shut up for the rest of the film.

Then there are all the new cast members who become redundant mere minutes after being introduced. Eventually you start to wonder if some of these people could have been left out the movie to make a much tighter edit.

The sets are however outstanding. The scorched Earth is something I want to see again. You do start wondering though - if all these giant mazes are apparently around the place, with green pastures inside. Why would anyone live in the desert when they can live quite happily inside the maze?

The action is great, most scenes make sense (although there is one jump cut from we have to take cover from the storm to the next morning). There are times when you have to ignore logic like needing food and water, leaving guns behind and stuff like that. But this was an enjoyable film which is very fast paced, if perhaps a little too much of a good thing but still a great film that you need to see on the big screen.

A Perfect thriller movie with a sexy black woman.
14 September 2015 | by  (Venezuela)
Successful lobbyist Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) is unhappy in her relationship with her boyfriend David King (Morris Chestnut), as he does not feel ready to commit to her wishes of starting a family, causing them to break up. Two months later, she ends up meeting the charming Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy), who works in IT for another company. They quickly grow close, and he manages to work his way into the hearts of her friends as well as her mother and father. On their way home from a trip to San Francisco, a stranger inquires Leah about Carter's Dodge Charger at a gas station. Thinking that he was flirting with her, Carter viciously attacks the man before the mortified Leah, and he takes off when the station's owner orders them to leave at gunpoint. Leah decides to break up with Carter that night, distraught over his actions and his desperate attempts to apologize.

Over the next several weeks, Carter stalks Leah at her job and leaves numerous phone-calls, even after she changes them. Unbeknownst to her, he also intrudes into her house with her spare house key, feeling around her belongings, hacking into her computer, and abducting her cat. She finally decides to go to the police, meeting with Detective Hansen (Holt McCallany). He advises her to keep note of any further attempts he makes to contact her, and one night, she finds a threatening note and a single red rose attached to her car. The next morning, a restraining order is filed against Carter at his job, and he is subsequently fired. Some time later, David contacts Leah about rekindling their relationship, and Leah eagerly agrees. One night, Leah and David find Carter watching them at a restaurant, and David grimly warns him to stay away. They still notify the police, and after Hansen interrogates Carter over the violation, Carter feigns innocence, stating that he had no idea she was there and that David was aggressive towards him. Hansen lets him go.

One night, as Carter is inside Leah's house, her neighbor, Mrs. McCarthy (Tess Harper) catches him, leading him to chase her back to her house where he kills her by pushing her down the stairs, causing her to break her neck. He also watches over Leah and David as they sleep and have sex. One morning, it's discovered that an email of a video showing Leah having sex with David was sent by her work account to her co-workers and her business's clients, and are forced to suspend her. Another night, Carter sabotages David's car, causing it to flip down a hill and seriously injure him. Carter goes down to the wreckage and kills the weakened David by suffocating him with his rubber gloves.

Both Leah and Hansen are certain that Carter is involved, though they lack the evidence necessary to incriminate him. After investigating further, Hansen learns that Carter is not his real name, and that he changed his identity after a similar series of harassment. He subtly tells Leah to take care of him on her own if necessary, leading her to buy a shotgun and shells. Carter seems to assume a new identity, as Leah spots him with another woman. She frightens her off and files another restraining order against him in front his new employers, once again getting him fired. She then manages to find a hideout of his where he monitors her, as well as finding her cat. She destroys his numerous computers and leaves, daring him to come after her again.

That night, Carter breaks into Leah's home, and after luring him to an empty room, she aims her gun at him. After managing to knock the gun out of her hand, a struggle ensues, which ends with her slashing his arm and shooting him twice with bean-bag ammo in an attempt to immobilize him. After he continues to advance, she shoots him with an actual shell, killing him. A now relieved Leah reports Carter to Hansen as an intruder, and police cart his corpse out of her house.

The perfect guy is a perfect thriller movie with a sexy black woman I wish I could hug and kiss.

Great Performance by Tom Hardy
14 September 2015 | by  (United Kingdom)
I really enjoyed this film. It does make out the Krays to be quite comical, especially Ronnie Kray. When in reality they were complete thugs and bullies. But as entertainment this was a great film, which is worth the admission price to see Tom Hardy play both roles.

Taron Egerton is excellent as 'Mad Teddy' and adds some extra charisma to the film. The film is over 2 hours but didn't drag at all. It's not up there with Goodfellas, but then not many films are. I've read a lot of books about the Krays and they left a lot out of this movie. I wouldn't say it is the definitive film of the Krays and it could have been better. As someone mentioned previously, it could have been a trilogy. But I can't really see many people playing the roles better than Tom Hardy.

I would say if you like Tom Hardy, and English gangland history, then you won't be disappointed with this film.

Total waste of time
27 August 2015 | by  (London)
I had been waiting to see this with much anticipation and what a complete let down. I can honestly say I have not seen such an awful film for a long time. After watching San Andres Fault by mistake I was so hopeful that nothing could be quite as bad as that. I was wrong. I know it's a big blockbuster and made to leave the viewer in awe, but I just laughed at it. My partner and I sat and said what was going to happen next and it did. The plot was dire from the start and I was kind of hoping the film would end before it had even got half way through it. Why do they always have Brits in American films who sound like they are so posh? Totally not called for. The acting was OK and I like Dwayne Johnson, but this was beneath him. The most ridiculous film in years.

A more realistic take on "The Purge."

25 August 2015 | by  (www.GoneWithTheTwins.com)
Few would claim "No Escape" lacks intensity; it's one of the most relentlessly aggressive, nonstop thrillers in years. But what it does appear to be unsure of are its intentions. The majority of heart-pounding, near-death getaways from certain doom recall modern action movies, yet the moments of stealthy evasions and nerve-wracking concealment prior to such explosive confrontations parallel horror films and the more realistic severity of ripped-from-the-headlines conflicts in war-torn countries.

Despite an initial commitment to that specific authenticity, it's not long before Pierce Brosnan's juggernaut of blazing guns and militaristic combat moves enters the fray. In fact, it's the notable action star's appearance that becomes either highly intriguing or completely unwelcome, depending on how the audience has viewed the events leading up to his haphazard, but expected, arrival. This inconsistency carries over to the violence in the picture as well. Half the time, it's apparent that catharsis should be derived from the bouts of bloodshed, while the rest is oftentimes just downright sinister. The fact that much of the brutality happens amidst the wide-eyed scrutiny of young children amplifies its potency - at which point even the heroics of gung-ho antiheroes can't twist the appalling into the adventurous.

When Jack Dwyer's (Owen Wilson) new job finds him relocating his wife Annie (Lake Bell) and their two young daughters (Sterling Jerins and Claire Geare) to a third-world Asian country, he attempts to console his family that it's for the best. But his commiseration turns to trepidation when he discovers that a governmental coup has transpired, making dissenters and foreigners the targets of immediate execution. As death and destruction close in around him, Jack must find a way to protect his family and escape the city - with only the aid of mysterious expatriate Hammond (Pierce Brosnan).

It begins with a cold open full of genuine gusto, setting up a scenario that soon devolves into a more volatile take on "Battle: Los Angeles" or "The Purge," but one utilizing a far more realistic setting. The backdrop is political instead of primordial or carnal, which gives it a boost of tenseness far more terrifying than in the aforementioned works of fictional farfetchedness. It's scary and believable – at least until it becomes overdependent on a Rambo-esque hero to save the day.

The introduction so brilliantly establishes a nerve-wracking situation that even the calmer, obligatory familial presentations can go on for a time without noticeably slowing down the pacing. The basic actions of chatting on a flight, hailing a taxi, or walking through a bazaar can't shake the jitteriness imparted by that dark opening. "I'm loving how unpredictable this hotel is," comments Jack, with what seems to be a casual remark before it's revealed to have foreshadowed unspeakable atrocities.

Lots of hand-held camera-work restively tailing weaving runners, paired with Marco Beltrami's pulsing score, create several artistic yet harrowing chase sequences. The edginess, however, soon loses its precision when extreme perils are spontaneously invented just to heighten audience anxiety. At certain points, when protagonists are backed into corners from which the only escape is an extravagant entrance by a heroic intervener at the last possible second, the shocking realism from the start is all but lost. A Terminator-like villain is also a misstep, pushing the unsentimental events into the realm of an actioner. Nevertheless, the suspense is capably handled (by the Brothers Dowdle, who previously worked on the horror films "The Poughkeepsie Tapes," "Quarantine," and "As Above, So Below") to an admirably distressing degree.
