Saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival. Surprised at the average ratings this film has received. An edge of the seat film, that tackles illegal immigration across the U.S Mexican border.
A simple, yet powerful story that made me re think illegal immigration, long after I had finished watching the movie.
The actors and dogs did a great job playing their part and the setting of the movie was ideal. Watching this movie in surround sound, made the suspense more intense. This movie could not have been released at a better time, due to its subtle message on illegal Mexican immigration. I would thoroughly recommend watching this movie and look forward to its release on DVD.

Three separate but parallel stories of the U.S mortgage housing crisis of 2005 are told. Michael Burry, an eccentric ex-physician turned one-eyed Scion Capital hedge fund manager, has traded traditional office attire for shorts, bare feet and a Supercuts haircut. He believes that the US housing market is built on a bubble that will burst within the next few years. "The Big Short" is educational, relevant and entertaining.
Nothing Small about "The Big Short" "The Big Short" is based on the book with the same name by financial journalist Michael Lewis. It is about collateralized debt obligations, subprime mortgages, credit default swaps and bundling. A snoozer right? Not one bit. "The Big Short" is more entertaining than most films in the cineplex this holiday season. Even if you don't know much about the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007-08, you will recognize a quality film and want to know more about the world economic collapse when the film is over. The film uses a multitude of techniques to tell the story. There are fourth-wall breaking monologues, a model in a bubble bath explaining economics as well as a singing idol and a celebrity chef using metaphors of cooking and gambling to explain the economic crisis. There are jump cuts, slow motion, foreshadowing and flash backs. The filmmakers use any and all tricks to explain a complicated mess of financial chicanery in order to help the audience understand. The banks, mortgage brokers, the credit ratings agencies and the government manipulated people in the nation and world into investing in worthless packages of bonds, and it behooves the director and writer, Adam McKay, to use all cinematic tricks to explain and untangle the financial corruption. The miracle is that the film deciphers the economic melt-down well while entertaining its audience. The acting is stellar from the stars to the bit players. They aren't just playing a role, they embody characters during a remarkable time in history. My mother thinks Steve Carrell was the best actor in the film, for she did not even recognize him at first. He plays against character and she liked that. However, my mother had never seen Carrell in "The Office." His character, Mark Baum, is much like the boss from that television series. However, in "The Big Short", he plays it straight. He is a boss of a fund under the umbrella of Morgan Stanley (but it's not Morgan Stanley, and his team likes to point out), and he is on a mission to bring down banks, to show them up, and to prove he's been right about the financial warning signs. He is betting against the hand that feeds him, Morgan Stanley. I preferred Christian Bale's performance as Michael Burry, an unselfconscious, manic math genius. I haven't seen that frightening look in Bale's eyes since "American Psycho", but this time he's only killing the mortgage backed securities market. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt, under- playing another disaffected former banker, Brad Rickert, helps two friends make millions while they bet against terrible investments, or "play short" the mortgage market. His backstory is revealed steadily and in a way that makes us wonder why he briefly got back into the investment "game." Even Ryan Gosling makes his mark in this star-studded cast playing the prescient "Jared Vennett." Remember, all the characters in the film are based on real people. And that is what makes it so remarkable. The other major players in the film are Bear Stearns, Morgan Stanley, and a slew of investment houses who at best ignore the coming financial crisis or at worst, colluded in its creation. From the realtors selling the mortgages, to the banks loaning at subprime, to the banks bundling the worthless packages, they were all making too much money to want to stop. This is exactly the kind of over-exuberance that occurred in the 1920s stock market crash, but few payed attention then or in 2007. "The Big Short" is a dramatized film of true events. And to make sure we understand, the actors break the fourth wall several times to tell us what part is true to the detail and what part is fictionalized to make it more dramatic. But if you are still incredulous, read the book. The events are all sadly true, and we are still paying for it.

A slow emotional ride about the courage to find oneself!

I though it was an impressively made story about finding the courage to be who you are, despite what society tells you.
Inspired by actual events, an artist trapped in a man's body discovers he's a woman underneath, and the movie goes through the processes, one step at a time of his transformation. From feeling the comfort of wearing women's clothing under men's, to finding a doctor that would like to try an experimental surgery that can make Einar, who wants to live his life as Lilli, completely whole. All the while, receiving love and support from Gerda, Einar's wife who loves her husband so much that she understands his need to be whole, even when it met loosing him.
It's a love story on a different level. Eddie Redmayne did a spectacular job allowing us to get into the head of what Einar was going through to get Lili out.
It's a wonderful and every emotional movie to watch

Micheal B. Jordan is a super star, and Sylvester Stallone's got his back!!

Milking the franchise for everything it's got, Sylvester Stallone returns as Rocky Balboa in the 7th installment in the series. This time, he's smart enough to know he's too old to get into the ring, so he gets some new blood with a familiar name.
Micheal B. Jordan plays Adonis(perfect name), a man who was in his mother's womb while his father, the legendary Apollo Creed got his ass handed to him in the 4th Rocky. With the same passion to fight as his father, he seeks out Apollo's old rival and best friend the Italian Stallion to teach him the skills to reclaim his legacy and become a new legend.
Like a good boxing movie should, Creed has heart. I'm such of fan of Micheal B. Jordan. He's got the charm and talent to become a movie star and Creed proves he's leading man material.
And much respect to Sly, who as an aged Rocky, is in the same spot as once franchise regulars, Micky and Paulie. It's humbling for a movie star to take a step back and let Jordan drive the vehicle in front of the camera, and Ryan Coogler sit in the director's chair and pen the flick, but obviously Sly cares about this cow and sought out the very best to make it the very best. Stallone also gave a performance of a lifetime worthy of an Oscar nod for supporting actor. He is Rocky, and watching him on the screen with Jordan was incredible cinema.
And the action in this movie was amazing. Some of the greatest battles in cinematic boxing are happening in Creed. We are so close to the action you can feel every hit. Also have to comment on Jordan's boxing skills. Creed, does an excellent job with showing a boxer going from having raw talent, to becoming a champion.
Definitely a worth wild boxing movie to see, and I think the best Rocky film since number two.

The obsession creates monsters!

I have been waiting for the movie since may, when i first watched the trailer. It was fascinating from the first moment, despite i do not like horror movies, i felt that it hides something special. And i was right! It is Gothic romance with elements of horror and the key role takes the relations and deep feelings between people.
The movie is extremely enchanted. You are submerging to the Victorian era from the first moment, it was like to buy a ticket to the past. The atmosphere is full with mystery and anxiety. The main role here takes the castle. It is unbelievably beautiful, but at the same dark and frightening. I have got the most aesthetic enjoy i ever had.
Jessica as Lucille is the best in here. You can't take a look out of her. Even Tom is in the shadow in comparison with her. Her demonic nature hides under the fatal appearance.
Tom's performance is perfect as always. He plays Thomas Sharpe - a gentleman with immaculate manners - his eyes are full with sorrow. I will not say too much about him, in order not to reveal all the secrets.
Just Mia was a little disappointed. I didn't fill her intense position. She acted superficial. This is only minus i caught.
Overrall, the beautiful lyrical story is worth seeing.

There is no Why

I was a bit intimidated to go to this movie, since I had seen the documentary "Man on Wire" about Philippe Petit in 2008. I was scared that I would be disappointed, since I had so loved the first movie. But my fears were misplaced. I loved this movie as well, it added a whole new depth of meaning to the story and filled in huge gaps about the various "accomplices" that were so necessary for the successful completion of the walk. Every moment is carefully scripted and you can see how Philippe learns from each experience. They say there are no accidents in life and that fortune favours the brave. This is very true here and just the right people seem to come along at the right time to aid in the final mission. They succeed despite all their shortcomings. The joy and serenity of doing the impossible really is transmitted. The final shots show the sun setting on the twin towers, what a wonderful way to remember them as part of such an uplifting event.

This is a beautiful little film. It contains a gem of a story, strongly highlighted by the bizarre but magnificent direction of Alfonso Gomez-Rajon. With the use of weird and raw camera angles, interesting narrative and timely use of stop motion techniques, the film individually stands out as a must see coming-of-age production. Based on the novel by Jesse Andrews, who also lent his talents to the screenplay, the production genuinely tries to give us a perspective of the bona fide thoughts of a youth growing up in Pittsburgh suburbia where fitting in is still as relevant now as it was twenty years ago. Generation X had 'The Breakfast Club' and Generation Y had 'American Pie' and this generation has 'Me and Earl........'. In years to come when they are all reminiscing about their coming of age moments, they'll look back and say, "Do you remember the film, Me and Earl........". What this film has been able to do is find the right balance between idiosyncratic comedy and heart felt drama, that when meshed together portrays a very authentic sense of realism that resonates with its audience. Greg (Thomas Mann) is a loner by choice who has awkwardly been able to survive the stifling nature of high school by strategically alienating himself from the sorted 'packs' that form inside the walls of educational institutions. His best mate (and only mate), Earl (RJ Cyler), who Greg regards as his co-worker, have formed a friendship that has stemmed back to their kindergarten years, based on their love of foreign cinema. Over the years the two co-workers have delightfully produced their own film productions that are a virtual send up of iconic movies from the past. With titles such as "A Sockwork Orange" and "2:46pm Cowboy", the two high schoolers go about giving these homemade movies their own little makeover. Greg's protected world is thrust into reality when his over zealous mother (Connie Britton) nags her son into spending time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) who has just been diagnosed with cancer. After some tense initial moments, the two find that they actually rather like each other and a very heart warming friendship begins. Greg is then talked into making a movie for his new friend but has difficulty in finding the right formula. A very balanced cast delivers a film that could just be the movie of the year. Stand out performances by the two leads in Thomas Mann and RJ Cyler drive a story that impacts the soul of every person willing to take the time to watch it. A wonderful cameo from Nick Offerman who portrays Greg's dad. His laid back, easy going father figure who has a taste for exotic foods plays out beautifully along side Greg and Earl who seem to just go with his unusual likings. This is a film for everybody and will not only resonate with its targeted audience but will leave a lasting impression on older viewers. This is a movie that oozes emotion.
