I saw Entertainment at the Sundance Film Festival yesterday and this is my first ever review.
This is hands down the most incoherent, nonsensical, abhorrent piece of trash I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure the director was trying to set a standard for how to create a film that not only assaults the eyes, intellect, and sanity of the viewers, but to educate future filmmakers on how to ruin the audiences day.
From the seemingly endless minutiae of wondering about, aimlessly, through life with a stupid look on his face to the series of comedy acts that are as inane as they are uncomfortable, the main character may be the most hopeless and awful person ever written. Each scene is unrelated to the former, resulting in a chain of thoughtless, boring, absurd moments that makes the viewer wish they were dead.
Frankly, it's not even the loss of my time and my brain cells that bothers me, it's the poorest allocation of capital I've ever seen. What in the world were the financiers of this film thinking? Unless you hate yourself, go do anything else with your time. Hope this helps

Loved the empowered Meryl Streep

As a woman of the same age as Meryl Streep I loved the command Ms. Streep had of the movie and its agenda. She portrayed a character that owned the camera and the audience. The relationship between character Ricki (Linda) and Maureen, Ricki's former husband's current wife, was also a positive dimension. It was a rare yet powerful example of women supporting each other. I found myself fascinated with the on-stage segments of the movie where Ms. Street performed as long-standing rocker Ricki. The band members were perfectly cast, making for the ideal look of stage grizzle resulting from way too many nights of performing. Secondary characters were somewhat cliché to me, but they worked in well with the primary plot of contrasting Ricki with the life she fled from in order to pursue the low-level rock and roll grind. The scenes in the gated home of Ricki's former husband reminded me of Something's Gotta Give, and contributed to some of the movie's pans. At the end of the movie, I was glad to have seen it and especially to experience Meryl Streep's take on Ricki. Magnificent actor - thanks Meryl Streep!!

I thought the film had a lot of really cool twist and turns that kept me guessing all the way to the end.
There were a lot of layers too it that did not jumble up on you to become too complicated. I guess the story was flushed out quite well by the filmmaker.
The film had a lot of cool elements too.
Charlize Theron plays Libby Day, the lone survivor of a massacre done by her brother of their entire family. Twenty years later, a convention of geeks that love serial killers, lead by Nicolas Hoult, contact her and pay her to help them prove that her brother did not do it. Even though she said he did Twenty years ago.
The movie lives up to the title. It points out how low a person can get on many different levels.

Where do I begin. This is the best animated movie ever created. It was to die for. I watched it 30 in one day. It was sick. U will love this masterpiece. It was killer. If I could I would married this movie it was that good. It was really good in IMAX 3D. The IMAX was slammed for this movie it took me 17 days to get tickets for this movie.

Not only tells the story of NWA, but the movie itself is a milestone in hip hop.

When I saw the film was going to be well over two hours, I will admit I thought they were too overzealous, but every minute of this movie was entertaining. The fact that a movie that tells the history of hip hop's most infamous group, and is on the level of such biopics as Oliver Stone's The Doors just shows you were hip hop has gone since the beginning of NWA. Usually biopics like this get boring when the third act hits, but not Straight out of Compton. It keeps your heart pumping to the very last minute. He's not gonna go down in history as the world's greatest thespian but you could do no wrong with Ice Cube Jr. Mimicking daddy-o (Ice Cube's son plays his dad and looks just like him). He had it down, but so did the kid playing Easy E, but the real credit goes to F. Gary Gray who made music videos for members of NWA. The writers and producers which included Ice cube also contributed to how entertaining this movie was. It feels like everyone cared about the project. Straight out of Compton is a positive spin on the NWA story, showing how five guys from the neighborhood who only wanted to make music for the kids on their block ended up taking over the world. It's has this "this could be you" vibe and overall is an uplifting story about living your dreams on your terms. It's no different than any other rock star's story and that's one of the reasons it's amazing. Also like how the story gave equal time to members DJ Yella and MC Ren. I was expecting the Big three players in the band to overshadow them, but the film treated these two with respect. What a great story. It was totally worthy of the 2 hours and 42 mins spent in the theater. Every minute counted. I'm thinking good enough to get nominated for something in awards season.

Raunchy rom-com starring Amy Schumer at the top of her game

"Trainwreck" (2015 release; 124 min.) opens with 2 young girls being told by their dad that he and their mom are divorcing,
and that "monogamy isn't realistic"", which the girls repeat after him "monogamy isn't realistic!". We are then told that
it's "23 Years Later", and we get to know Amy (played by May Schumer), a who is in her early thirties, with a great job
at S'NUFF magazine, a hulk of a boy friend, and a series of one-night stands. Then one day, Amy gets an assignment to write
an article about celebrity sports doctor Aaron Conners (played by Bill Hader). To tell you more would spoil your viewing
experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.
Couple of comments: the movie no only stars Amy Schumer, she also wrote the script, and one can only assume that the Amy
character is loosely based on Amy the real life person. The director is Judd Apatow, who brought us most recently
"This Is 40" and before that "Funny People" and "Knocked Up", among others. But let's not kid ourselves: this is the Amy
Schumer show all the way. The movie is not shy on sex and sex-related jokes and double entendres, so if that is something
that might bother you, by all means, stay away from this. Amy has plenty of zingers in her script, in fact at times they
come so fast and furious, I'm sure I didn't catch all of them. Yes, this is a comedy, but the second hour of the film shows
plenty of more serious and wistful undercurrents. Amy is surrounded by some great talent. Bill Hader does okay as the
romantic interest. But the performances that really catch the eye are first and foremost Tilda Swinton as Amy's boss/editor
at S'NUFF (looking almost unrecognizable) and of course also LeBron James as himself, playing it straight up, with hilarious
results. There are a TON of cameos, the best of the bunch being Chris Evert and Marc Albert towards the end of the film.
There is plenty of song placements in the film, including Billy Joel (Uptown Girl; Matter of Trust), Miley Cyrus (Do My
Thang), Bombadil (Amy's Friend), and many more. Bottom line: this is a raunchy with some serious undercurrents, featuring
Amy Schumer at the top of her game.
The movie is now in its second weekend at the box office, and the early evening screening where I saw this at here in
Cincinnati was very nicely attended, somewhat to my surprise, to be honest. But it shows that there is a target audience
for a Hollywood movie that is clearly not for everyone. If you are in the mood for a brassy sex comedy with some great
acting performances, you cannot go wrong with this. "Trainwreck" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Coming on the heels of its commercially-successful predecessor, 'The Fault in Our Stars',
PAPER TOWNS is no heavy tearjerker, but it echoes more affectionate and piercing sentiments,
with its lighter, minimalist take of its recognizable subjects.
The film follows Quentin (Nat Wolff) , or "Q" as he is more popularly called, a highschool
boy who has been nursing an unrequited love for the girl living next door, Margo (Cara Delevigne) since childhood.
Even after when they turn 12, when Margo suddenly becomes distant, "Q" never loses the affection, and
it only becomes even stronger when one day she climbs again to his window, the way she did when they were still kids.
The next events follow an eager "Q" savoring the moment as he escorts Margo in her series of "small revenge" against those
she thinks have betrayed her, including her ex-boyfriend. But the levitating moment would only last overnight, because the
next day, the ever mystifying Margo, disappears.
Mining on the same overly familiar material that dwells on both coming-of-age and
teenage romance territories, PAPER TOWNS pulls off two easily-recognizable efforts:
maintaining 'The Fault's charm, while toning down its tragic notions. The latter of which,
yields a more tangible and heartwarming result, capable of conjuring a lasting tug at the heartstrings.
The credit for this goes to its equally-charming yet capable actors, both of whom teeming with fresh and enigmatic
likability. It will also sound unforgivable to never pay regard to the film's brilliant screenwriters who manage to
cleverly highlight this extremely familiar highschool tale's stronger and more relatable sentiments, genuinely and
sincerely enough, to bend fragile emotions with crippling capacity.
"Q"'s road trip in finding Margo represents a bigger journey with far wider scope and meaning,
and it comes across as a process of personal exploration that unknowingly liberates one self,
toward finding the deeper sense of their existence. Hardly that the questions thrown get resolved,
but the charming and sincere take of its proceedings, will ultimately make the narrative arrive to
a satisfying conclusion. This doesn't mean it's able to satisfy its own queries, but the resolution
delivered are nonetheless, reliable and honest.
PAPER TOWNS will come across as a witty, yet touching case of a 'lost and found'
Much of it is spent in searching for the 'lost', a liberating process that frees its seekers from every
question that unfolds in the wake of a previous other, but the 'found', though never really answers any of
the previous questions, will deliver a surprisingly satisfying, and never less of a rewarding, answer.
